I’ve been training in commercial gyms for years, mostly focused on hypertrophy. I still enjoy that and keep it as part of my routine. But over time, I realized I had become too dependent on machines. They have their place, but I wanted to challenge myself more with instability training and compound lifts – the kind of movements that build real strength and carry over into everyday life.
That’s why I now dedicate two days a week at Hygieia. The gym follows the Starting Strength method, built around the main barbell lifts. Training is structured, progressive, and always centered on proper form. That focus makes the lifts not only safer but also more effective, so every session feels purposeful and productive.
I also really like the training format. Classes are small groups, which creates a sense of camaraderie. You get individual coaching, but you also learn a lot from watching others and sharing tips. Each class is about 90 minutes, which gives you enough time to build up through your warm-up sets before reaching your working weights.
For me, this training has been the perfect complement to my regular hypertrophy work. It’s helped me move beyond machine dependence, focus on compound lifts, and build strength in a way that feels sustainable, motivating, and genuinely rewarding.
